The classic example is a blue player deliberately setting aside (or holding up) two untapped Islands from the rest of their mana and then passing turn: they are now representing Counterspell
For example, you may reveal a Plains as Port Town (from the Shadows over Innistrad set) is returned to the battlefield, but Port Town will still enter tapped
