So perhaps I'm predisposed to believe this theory and am setting myself up for disappointment
(2011-01-01) If an activated ability of a card in a graveyard references the card it's printed on by name, treat Necrotic Ooze's version of that ability as though it referenced Necrotic Ooze by name instead
But thats okay
It still has a place (mostly driven by nostalgia, probably) in dredge decks like Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, and you absolutely have to run it on principle in Saffi Eriksdotter and Hans Eriksson decks
Alela isnt done there though, with a second ability that triggers when one or more of your Faeries deal combat damage to a player, after which you get to goad a creature that player controls
The same might be true in Modern as well, although finding an efficient way to combo with Zirda, the Dawnwaker that also has an activated ability might be a challenge
